I-285 Considered One of the Deadliest Interstates in the U.S.

On Behalf of | Oct 13, 2016 | Personal Injury

According a study completed in 2013 by the National Highway Traffic Association, approximately 8 fatal accidents occur every single day across America’s interstates. There were 2,867 fatal collisions on major U.S. highways in 2013, with I-285, the highway surrounding Atlanta, having the greatest number of fatal accidents per mile for that year.

The 2013 list of top 5 interstates with most fatal accidents per mile is as follows:

  1. I-285 (Georgia)
  2. I-710 (California)
  3. I-240 (Oklahoma)
  4. I-495 (Delaware)
  5. I-240 (Tennessee)

The state of Georgia is ranked as the 7th worst state for fatal auto accidents. The Georgia Department of Transportation is continuing to work on projects, such as improving signage and roadway safeness, to help reduce the number of incidents that happen each year.
