What to do about a dangerous truck driver

On Behalf of | Jul 17, 2020 | Uncategorized

The more time you spend on the highway, the more likely it is that you’ll come across a dangerous truck driver. While most truckers understand the importance of following the rules of the road, some are overly aggressive and downright dangerous at times.

Here’s what you can do to protect yourself:

  • Remain alert: Keep a close eye on all commercial trucks in close proximity to your vehicle, looking for anything suspicious. For example, if a truck is swerving all over the road, it may mean the driver is drowsy, under the influence or distracted.
  • Keep your distance: For example, don’t drive next to a truck for a long period of time. Either lag back or go up the road ahead. The more space you have, the more time there is to react in an emergency.
  • Call 911: Depending on what you’re seeing, this may be something you want to do. Maybe a trucker is visibly angry and taking it out on other drivers. Call 911, explain what you’re seeing and let the police decide what to do next. And remember, there’s never a good time to take matters into your own hands.

Don’t assume that every truck driver is as cautious and respectful as you. Some truckers don’t care about you, your safety or the rules of the road. They simply want to reach their destination as quickly as possible.

If you are injured in a truck accident, you may want to file a claim. The steps you take now may help you in getting compensation for your loss.
